CASH PRIZES.

Garden Competition for Unemployed. The Garden Allotments Committee met at the City Council offices yesterday afternoon, Mr Georgie Maginntss presiding over a small attendance. A report was submitted showing the progress made with the sale of seeds to relief workers. The report showed the number of applicants as 1031 and thv total number of applications as 2037. Out of 7025 small packets of seeds, 6903 were sold, leaving 122 in stock. Of the larger packets 1922 had been sold out of a total of 2023; 7925 cabbage and 3500 lettuce had b\ien disposed of and 16171 b of potatoes. Three and three-quarter tons of manure and six tons of lime were also disposed of. The takings were shown as £B9 Is Bd. It was reported that a number of letters had been sent to city firms asking for donations. The Farmers’ Co-op. Association wrote advising that it was forwarding a donation. It was decided to send a tetter of thanks. The question of prize-money for the forthcoming unemployed garden competition was discussed and the minimum was fixed at 25s for first and 15s for second. The date for the closing of entries was fixed for December 9, the competition to be open to all registered unemployed. The same judges as last year, Messrs M. J. Barnett. E. Tailor and J. T. Sinclair will be again asked to judge the competition.
