KITE-FLYING CONTEST.
Boys, large and small, with kites, large and small, were gathered in hundreds this morning at Sydenham Park, when the ” kite season ” was ushered in officially by a championship meeting, organised by the management of the Majestic Theatre. Soon over 200 kites were fluttering and diving in the air, while the “ controls ” on the ground passed professional remarks about the wet condition of the ground and the lack of wind. It was a close event, and only after some consideration was Mr Cecil Ilaigh, manager of the theatre, able to announce the following prize-winners: Roy Anderson, 27, Balfour Terrace. 1; Ken Brown, 20, Sydney Street. 2: Tom Rule, 103. Main Road, Redcliffs, 3. Consolation prize?, Ralph Power, Hector Grey, Peter Wiltshire, Albert Hawthorne and Ben Plant.
