Misused Words.
“JS THERE any difference between ‘ regime ’ and 4 regimen ’?” asks “ Purist ”; “ and how is the second word pronounced?” There is a distinct difference in the meaning commonly applied to these two w-ords, for regime means a manner or system of government or management, a particular conduct or administration of affairs, a prevalent mode in social manners or even a social system. Regimen, which is pronounced exactly like regiment with the “ t ” omitted, means a systematised order or course of living with reference to food, clothing and personal habits. In a wider sense it may mean orderly government or control. However, it is very rarely heard nowadays, and the probability is that most persons would regard it as a slip of the tongue if they heard it. TOUCHSTONE.
