Silence has settled on the fate of the eight American Catholic missionaries who are in the beleaguered town of Yuanchow, in the Province of Huan. Government forces in the town have been besieged for two months by bandits led by the notorious rebel, Chen. The bandits are pressing the defenders of the town, of which there are reported to be two thousand, with a year’s supply of rice.
