MUCH STRONGER.
Japanese Emperor Reviews Navy. AIR FORCE INCREASED TO 180. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. TOKIO, August 26. The Emperor of Japan reviewed at the naval manoeuvres the strongest fleet that has ever saluted a Japanese ruler. The tonnage was 847.766, compared with 703,295 in 1930; and aeroplanes tallied 180, compared with 72; but the fleet can carry more. A striking feature was the increased strength of the first-class cruisers, longer in range and stronger in striking power, replacing the predominantly light cruisers fleet of 1927.
