Lord Moyne’s twin-screw yacht Roussalka, encountering a fog, struck Strathlin Rock, off the coast of Galway, and sank in seven minutes. There were twenty-three persons aboard, consisting of Lord Moyne, his guests, and eighteen of a crew. All landed safely in the yacht’s boats. Lord Moyne, third son of the first Earl of Iveagh, was created first Baron of Moyne in 1932. He is a member of the Guinness family and is very wealthy. He served in the South African and European Wars and was decorated for his services in both. In Parliament he was Under-Secretary of State for War from 1922 to 1923, Financial Secretary to the Treasury from 1923 to 1925, and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1925 to 1929.
