UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS.
Protest Against Alleged Wrongful Use. At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council on Saturday evening, a protest was made against the policy of the Unemployment Board in supplying the services of subsidised workers under the 4A scheme to farmers who were in a position to pay for such services. A case brought before the Ashburton Unemployment Committee recently was quoted, and the council expressed the opinion that revenue derived from the unemployment levy and wage tax was never intended to assist farmers, other than those in financial difficulties.
