BOXER CONVICTED.

Failed to Account for Moneys. GRANTED PROBATION. A professional boxer, Charles Joseph Moore, described also as a labourer and miner, 24 years of age. of Grevmouth, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court this morning to two charges of failing to account for money collected. He was admitted to probation for twelve months, and ordered to refund the money due in that time. The charges were that on May 9 and May 30, at Grevmouth, he failed to account for two sums of £3 2s 6d, received from Mrs Mary Dunn, to the Kotuku Oil and Goldfields, Ltd., Nelson. Accused was represented by Mr Hutchison. Chief-Detective Dunlop said that Moore was not employed by the firm but had collected the money and failed to account for it. He was employed by a sharebroker to introduce a salesman to likely shareholders in the firm. He was a professional boxer and a single man. Moore claimed that one of the amounts had been posted to its proper source but there was no record of it. Mr Hutchison said that Moore considered that the first sum of £3 2s 6d was due to him in commission. There had been no fraudulent intent. Counsel suggested that probation would meet the case. Moore’s present intentions were to go to a brother in Wellington and he hoped to arrange a professional boxing match. He was a good performer in the ring.
