COLOURFUL SCARVES

Fashions at Addington To-day. BROWN AND BLUE POPULAR. I Wintry weather marked the first meeting of August race week, that of the Metropolitan Trotting Club at Addington to-day. Some compensation, however, for the cold winds could be found in the view of the mountains, which looked glorious, clothed to the foot in a great blanket of snow. As is usual at this time of the year warm coats, of fur, camel-hair and tweeds, were the rule with the womenfolk, but true originality and gaiety was introduced bv means of scarves, which were present in an almost endless variety of checks, stripes and spots. Gloves of the same shade as the wearer’s scarf looked extremely smart. Brown in all its shades down from the dark chona to the pretty pale doebeige was easily first favourite in the general colour scheme. Blue, especially in the lovely vivid tones which this season the designers have elected to christen glory and cruise blues were also popular. On the whole, however, the smart woman with a view to further meetings next week had reluctantly consigned her newest frock to the wardrobe, to burst forth in all its glory on a warmer day.
