IN WIFE’S PRESENCE.

MURDER IN PALESTINE. DEATH OF DR. ARLOSOROFF. BAFFLING MYSTERY OF MOTIVE. The murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, chairman of the executives of the Zionist j Organisation and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, caused great indignation in both ' the Jewish and Arab communities. Dr. Arlosoroff, who was. 33 years of age, , was walking with his wife ou the sands at Tel Aviv when lie saw two unknown ( men in European clothes following them.J lie waited till they came near, and asked | what they wanted. One man, speaking in good Hebrew, asked Dr. Arlosoroff the time, and when | the latter took out his watch the man flashed a light on his face and fired three; shots. The men ran away, and Mrs. Arlosoroff summoned help. Crowded Streets. Dr. Arlosoroff was taken to the hospital at Tel Aviv, where he died soon after midnight. The Palestine Government offered a reward of £SOO, and the Jewish Agency one of £IOOO for information leading to the arrest of the men. The authorities are unable to ascribe a motive for the murder of Dr. Arlosoroff. It is generally agreed that the crime was a political one, and it is pointed out that it coincided with the anniversary of the execution of certain Arabs for leading attacks on Jews in the 1929 riots. It is therefore possible that the murderers were Hebrew-speaking Arabs. Nine Years in Palestine. Another theory is that the crime was committed by extreme Jewish Communists who resent the policy of Zionist development in Palestine, and also Dr. Arloseroff’s recent suggestion that the German Government he asked to allow Jews to come to Palestine. Dr. Arlosoroff, who had lived in Palestine since 1924, had just returned from Europe, where he had investigated the Jewish conditions. He visited Berlin, Paris, and other cities, attended meetings of the executive of the Jewish Agency in London, and was entrusted with the task of formulating a scheme for the settlement of German Jews in Palestine, for which funds are being raised in many parts of the world.
