BOXING.
New Zealand Bantam-weight Title. George Wright, the present holder of the New Zealand bantam-weight professional championship, having accepted the challenge of Len Knuckey, of Hastings, to defend the title, the contest, which will be of fifteen three-minute rounds, will be staged at St James Theatre next Wednesday evening by the Christchurch Sports Club. In addition there will be four interprovincial contests between South Canterbury and Canterbury. For these the following have been matched:— Feather-weight—J. Muryhy (S.C.) v. N. Fisher (C.). Light-weight—E. Wade (S.C.) v. R. Scott (C.) Middle-weight—R. S. Giles (S.C.) v. Don Stirling (C.). Light Heavy-weight—S. Brandt (S.C.) v. A. J. Bourne (C.). % The interprovincial contests will be of six two-minute rounds each. Considerable interest is being centred in contests owing to the splendid matching of the contestants. Brandt, who made an excellent impression here at the last open tournament, when he conquered Gaudin, will find a tougher proposition in A. J. Bourne on this occasion. New blood will bo seen in action in the middleweight class, in which S. Giles, the tough and rugged Timaru middle-weight, will meet Lon Stirling, a recent acquisition to Canterbury’s ranks from Otago. Stirling held the junior and senior boxing championships of Waitaki Boys’ High School, and on his initial appearance In Dunedin recently created a very favourable impression by his defeat of L. Hood, a very capable welter. Stirling will be conceding Giles Hlb. Lay sales Rnd reserves may be obtained at Lange’s, United Service Buildings.
