AGEING SOLDIERS.
Need for Special Care Discussed.
HOME SUGGESTED. The question of making provision for the care of returned soldiers who have become prematurely-aged and arc in need of special care was discussed by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening. A special committee was set up to investigate the possibilities of establishing a suitable home for such men. Mr \V. E. Leadley, who introduced the subject, said that the problem of providing for men who were premature-ly-aged as a result of war service was becoming more acute every year. In the Old Country there was a special pension fund for such men, and Admiral Sir Lionel Halsey was the trustee. He moved that the executive should write to Sir Lionel Halsey and ask him for particulars of the fund, how it was created, and whether it applied to ex-imperial soldiers residing overseas. Mr T. L. Drummond suggested that the time was opportune lor the association to consider the question of acquiring an area of land and establishing a home for men who were prematurelyaged and were in need of care. If this could be done the association would be able to help a number of men who were continually applying to the Benevolent Committee for relief. Some of the cases were hopeless and they were just floating around with no homes. Mr H. Fleck said that the time was ripe for some action to be taken. Mr Leadley's motion was carried. It was further resolved, on the motion of Mr Drummond, that Messrs Leadlev, A. H. Parfitt, Fleck and the mover should be a special committee to consider the possibilities of establishing a home for prematurely-aged men who would be willing to take advantage of it.
