TROTTING NOTES.

for the trotting events to be decided at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting are due on July 26. * * * nt Acceptances for the first day of the August meeting at Addington will close on August 1 at noon. A LIKELY WINNER. Provided that he has made a good recovery from the soreness which kept him from contesting the Waimate Plains Handicap on the second day of the Ilawera Easter meeting, the highlybred David M’Elwyn should prove a profitable horse next season. He was in splendid form at the Auckland Christmas meeting, scoring one win and two seconds in three starts, while in the cup at Ilawera he proved his staying powers by finishing very stoutly to defeat Belle o' Mine, who had a good lead two furlongs from home. David M’Elwyn should improve with age. * * * * During the past six months the pacing gelding, Harold Denver, has been following sheep. This has settled him down a great deal, and he is being jogged about preparatory to being got ready for serious obligations in November. Harold Denver is by Denver Huon from a mare by Harold Dillon, and during the 1931-1932 season he started twelve times for one win. ANOTHER CHANGE. The grey trotting mare, Fifa. is now attached to D. Withers’s establishment i.t Yaldhurst. Fifa was first trained at New Brighton by J. N. Clarke, under whose tutelage she made good progress and won races. She later joined M. B. Edwards's stable, where she was an inmate for some time. She is looking very well, and so far she has worked to the entire satisfaction of her new trainer She is by Guy Parrish from Eastern Lady, the dam of Huon Denver and Lady Huntsburv. She started in ten races last year for one win. one second and one third. She is in regular work for the new season’s racing, and will be a competitor at the August meeting at Addington. * * * * The four-year-old pacer, Gu}’ Menzies, has resigned his stall at a West Coast establishment, and has rejoined his owner’s team at “Santa Rosa.” Guy Menzies is a half brother to that useful pacer, Ron, being by Guy Parrish from Mindful. Guv Menzies is at present being jogged about in a pleasure gig preparatory to beginning a preparation for a serious campaign at the summer meetings. A GOOD SEASON. Wee Machine, who had previously failed to earn a stake, did much better this season, his winnings reaching £4OO. He struck form earlv in the season when trained by E. S. Groat, for whom he won three races. Later he was transferred to G. T. Mitchell at Cambridge and was responsible for several good efforts, securing one win and several seconds. Although he failed to race as well as expected in the Rotorua Cup, he gives promise of developing into a useful two-miler. KINGCRAFT. | The New Zealand Trotting Cup can- 1 didate, Kingcraft, has rejoined D. Withers’s stable at Yaldhurst. Kingcraft has not raced since the big meeting in November last year. For most of the time he has been at his owner’s place at Tinwald. where he was well cared for. and given a course of jogging work before he was sent to D. Withers to be got ready for spring! racing. Kingcraft was foaled in 1924, and is by the Yancleve horse, Quincey, who was a fine trotter in his day. Kingcraft is a half brother to Village Guy. When seen recently he was in perfect order to receive a thorough preparation. He will make his re-appear-ance at the August meeting at Addington. ON HOLIDAYS. W in Huon has been turned out for a spell in the hope that it will benefit his leg. He was not raced much during the season, but won two races and was twice in a minor place. His trainer, C. G. Lee, is at present attending to the education of his three-year-old Nelson Luvan. a sturdy-looking pacer by Nelson Bingen from Luvan, who is making good progress. * * * ❖ Prince opened his winning account at the first meeting of the season at Epsom when he won the August Handicap, and it was not until the last day of the final meeting, in June, that he again won, being successful in the Liverpool Handicap. He was off the scene for the spring and summer fixtures owing to kidney trouble, but he was produced again at Thames in March, after which he was placed in two-mile races at Te Aroha and Cambridge. Now that he has come right again, Prince Pedro should play a prominent part in two-mile races next season. GIVEN TIME. The two-year-old pacer, Guy Junior, has been allowed to please himself since his effort in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. When he made his debut at Ashburton on April 22 his splendid performance in running third in a field of horses of all ages gained him an army of friends for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, but the following week he ran up against an even better one of his age in Village Guy at Timaru. Guy Junior came again and, after following War Buoy home in a mile and a half race at Oamaru, he. led a decent field home over a similar distance at Ashburton in May. In that event he looked a much improved colt, but when the New Zealand Sapling Stakes came up for decision in June he failed to go up to expectations. His performance made it plain that he had trained off. So a wise course has been pursued and Guy Junior will not race during August; in fact, his next appearance will te at the summer meetings, when he will probably contest the New Zealand Derby Stakes and Great Noithern Derby. GRAND VOYAGE.

Grand Voyage, the best trotter Australia has produced since Fritz, is now being hawked about Melbourne for sale at £75 At Victoria Park one morning, when Paddy Glasheen had Grand Voyage, he stood on the mark and trotted a mile in 2min 9sec. At Epping he trotted a mile and a half and 120 yards at a 2.13 gait. Brought to New' Zealand, among other successes, he won the Otahuhu Handicap in 4min 41 3-5 sec. If, ever a horse should pass the evening of his life in peace and plenty

it is Grand Voyage. Grand Voyage? win of the Otahuhu Handicap in 1922 was followed by a succession of wins in that event by Australian horses. TROTTING FIXTIHIRS July 20—Waimate D.H.C, July 22—South Canterbury H.C. July 29—Christchurch H.C. August 5,9, 11— N.Z. Metropolitan T.C.
