An Explanation.
Dear Sir,—l would esteem it a favour to be able to rectify a wrong impression conveyed to the public in my case on Thursday last. It was stated in Court that I was living in a house provided for my wife and family by the citizens of Christchurch. The sum of £lO was deposited on the house from the public subscription, and from my taking over the house I commenced to pay rent which for a few weeks only was assisted by money from the public subscription. —I am, etc., E. J. KING. Northcotfe Settlement.
