TAXI TURNS OVER.
A taxi, driven by Mr T. May, was badly damaged in an accident in the city last evening. The driver escaped injury in miraculous fashion, after the car had rolled completely over twice. This mishap occurred at the inter- ! section of Victoria Street and Oxford j Terrace. The taxi was being driven j into the c ity along Victoria Street and i a private car along Oxford Terrace, also towards the city. The cars met right in the middle of the intersection. I
the front left-hand portion of the private car striking the taxi just at the rear wheel. The force of the collision overturned the taxi, which rolled over twice before it came to rest near the gutter in Oxford Terrace. The driver climbed out with only a negligible cut. The chassis of the taxi was damaged extensively, the glass in the windows i being broken and the bodywork gen- ! cralh twisted. The <o\ ering of • I hood was also ripped for its full j length and the steering wheel was smashed. The only noticeable damage to the other car was a broken axle and I a twisted mudguard.
