HARMONIC SOCIETY.
The Harmonic Society’s concerts will be held on Thursday and Saturday next in the Radiant Hall, when the society will produce Wallace’s favourite opera, “ Maritana.” “The popular melodies of this well-known -work will appeal to all who have enjoyed it in years gone by, and will certainly be attractive to the younger generation as well as to their parents. The solos will be in the hands ot capable and experienced artists chosen from the ranks of the society. The part of Maritana has been entrusted to Mrs Ralph Sierakowski, whose powerful soprano voice will be heard to advantage. The contralto part of Lazarillo is in the capable hands of Mrs F. -Kerr. The principal solo parts are; —Don Caesar, Mr James Shaw; Don Jose, Mr F. R. Hawker; and the 'Captain, Mr J. L. Tennent, all of whom can be relied upon to do justice to the robust and martial music. Mr James Shaw has had a wide experience in opera in the Old Country, and, in particular, in the broadcasting of opera for the British Broadcasting Company at its Manchester station. In this connection he has taken the principal tenor parts m “ Faust,” “ Cavalleria Rusticana,* “ Lohengrin ” and other wellknown works. The chorus will be at full strength under the baton of Mr Victor C. Peters, and the whole work will be accompanied by full orchestra, with Miss Blanche Atkinson at the piano.
