Propagation by Division.
A Garden Corner,
is a large class of herbaceous perennials which sooner or later develop too large a clump for the position they are in. Also at times it is desirable to increase stock for the purpose of further plantings. Chopping through the clump with a spade or axe is a good rough and ready method. But there is a much better way, and that is to use a good strong, sharp knife, and dissect the clump into the necessary divisions by cutting through as nearly as possible where the natural hiving off has occurred. Such border perennial plants as Pyrethrums, Lupins, Poppies, Heleniums, Delphiniums, Dahlias, Gerberas, Rudbeckia, Spireas, Ppeonies. Iris, Gentianas and Violas can all be treated in this way, and it is not yet too late to perform the operation and build up flowering plants in plenty for the coming season. Of course, all the divisions taken off should have a few roots attached T. D. LENNIE.
