MINISTERIAL. The Minister of Public Works and acting-Minister of Education (the Hon J. Kitchener) was accorded a civic reception at Nelson to-day. He visited the primary schools and colleges and heard deputations on local matters this afternoon. He will leave Nelson for Wellington to-night.—Press Association. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) returned from Wellington yesterday. Mr A. C. Cottrell has been appointed to a seat on the Diocesan Board of Education, states the “ Church News.” Guests at the Royal Hotel include Messrs G. R. Saunders (Taranaki) and M. M’Donald (Oamaru). Mr Lloyd Aver ill, third son of Archbishop Averill, has joined the staff of the Melanesian Mission, and is working as a teacher at Ugi School. Mr D. A. Manson has been appointed a member of the Hanmer Springs Domain Board, in place of Mr James Ashton, who has resigned. Mr E. J. Bell, librarian of the Canterbury' Public Library, returned to Christchurch yesterday after spending a holiday in the North Island. Messrs J. W. Anderson (Wellington), A. J. Carlyle. 11. G. Cajden (Auckland) and F. Russell (Timaru) are guests at the New City Hotel.

A Wellington Press Association message states that Mr G. F. Bothamley. at present second clerk assistant and reader of bills in the House of Representatives staff, has been appointed first clerk assistant in succession to Mr W. I. Dasent, retired. Mr 11. N. Dollimore, at present records clerk, has been promoted second clerk assistant. Mr R. A. Campbell, who has taken his position as a graduates’ representative on the Board of Governors of Canterbury College, was congratulated by Professor S. Steele at the meeting of the College Engineering Society on Saturday. Mr Campbell was formerly professor of civil engineering at the college. Mr J. B. Cumming, a director of the whisky' distilling firm of John Walker and Sons, Ltd., Scotland, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday morning, and is staying at the United Service Hotel, lie will leave for Dunedin to-morrow, and will return to Christchurch when his business is completed, lie will sail from New Zealand for England by way of Australia on August 16. Dr J. C. Bradshaw, Christchurch Cathedral organist, has been granted three months’ leave of absence by' the Chapter, following his recent severe illness. The “ Church News ” announces the appointment of Miss J. Black as temporary' organist, and Mr F. A. Bullock as temporary choirmaster. Other changes include the appointment of Mr Gibbs Jordan as organist and choirmaster of St John’s Church, Rangiora. Mr Claude H. Davies, who has been for some time past organist and choirmaster of Papanui, has been appointed to a similar position at St John's Church, Latimer Square, in succession to Miss Black, who recently resigned. Mr Malcolm Rickard has been appointed to succeed Mr Vernon Griffiths at St Michael's, Christchurch.
