“EVENINGS FOR SALE.”
Herbert Marshall Starred in Intriguing Film. '•Where Is This Lady?” the delightful musical romance featuring Marta Eggert, will have its final screening at the Regent Theatre on Friday night. Another notable addition to Herbert Marshall’s list of film successes is ” Evenings for Sale,” which will begin on Saturday at the Regent Theatre. Marshall, who was recently seen in ’* The Blonde Venus” (with Marlene Dietrich) is an actor of exceptional calibre, and a man of charming personality, who seems destined to forge into the first flight of screen stars. His work in 44 Evenings for Sale ” is said to be better than ever, with the result that a picture worthy in itself becomes an attraction definitely not to be miss'ed. There is another reason, too, why “Evenings fo r Sale ” should make for a busy box office. It introduces a new leading woman, and a fascinating one, in the person of Sari Maritza, who found her way to Paraamount’s 9tudios from Hungary, via England. Marshall and Sari are a delightful pair of misunderstanding lovers in this story of a penniless Austrian officer who -turns “ gigolo ” to make a living. He meets his fate at a riotous carnival, but when she sees him dancing with a rich American widow she misinterprets the situation in a manner that distributes first boulders on a rocky road to happiness.- There is a buoyant champagne atmosphere about the production, and the tale in its unfolding presents piquant situations leading to an intriguing, not to say exciting, climax. Mary Boland as the rich widow- contributes generously to the comedy—for the film is of a gaily romantic type—and Charles Ruggles, plus Lucien Littlefield, are prominently cast. “ Evenings for Sale ” is brilliantly directed, and lilting Viennes-e melodies blend into the background of the show. Box plans at The Bristol.
