AN ARLISS TRIUMPH.
“ A Successful Calamity ” in Second Week.
George Arliss gives a flawless performance in " A Successful Calamity,” the comedy-drama which is now in its second week at the Plaza Theatre. A delightful study of benevolent old age is contributed by the great character actor in this outstanding film. Arliss pictures are always notable screen
events, and “ A Successful Calamity ” maintains the enviable reputation the actor established in “ Old English ” and The Millionaire.’’ “A Successful Calamity ” received the acclamation of • cities overseas. The film correspondent of the London “ Sunday Times ” remarked:—“l recommend a visit to ‘A Successful Calamity,’ in which you will find George Arliss in the best of form. The chief merit of the composition is its all-pervading amiability . . . Seldom has comedy been more delicately conveyed by facial expression. And Arliss does not have the field alone in this. T>avid Torrence, Grant Mitchell, William Janney, Mary Astor and Evalyn Knapp all lend admirable aid.” The supporting features maintain the excellent standard set by the major attraction.
