THE YEAR’S WORK.

Aid Given to Youth by the Y.M.C.A. Reference to the splendid work that the Y.M.C.A. was accomplishing in the direction of the proper guidance of the youths oP the community was made at the annual meeting of the association Mr D. E. Parton, who presided, in moving the adoption of the annual report, emphasised the reasons why the association had paid so much attention to the youth unemployment problem. Aluivugh the position was not as hopeiul as the association would like, its le-aaers had to tell both parents and boys that they must adopt a proper attitude towards the future, if only because of the achievements of the past. What had been done before could be done again. So long as parents saw that their sons were equipped according to the ideals of the Y.M.C.A., however, they need have no fear for the future of their people. The motion was seconded by Mr H. W. Heslop and carried. The financial statement was presented for adoption by Mr K. G. Archer, who said that the board had succeeded in reducing the loss from £398 in 1932 to £279. Except for the extraordinary times through which they were passing, that loss would have been completely eliminated. The financial statement was then adopted. The retiring directors of the board, Messrs A. W. Beaven, J. D. Hall and S. L. Partridge, were re-elected. It was mentioned that Mr Beaven had served for fifty years as a director. Votes of thanks were accorded the directors, the women’s auxiliary and voluntary workers, the staff (particularly the secretary. Mr A. J. M’Eldowney), the newspapers of Christchurch, the honorary auditor, Mr J. Mawson Stewart, and the honorary solicitor, Mr G. S. Salter.
