JAPANESE ADVANCING.
Important British Coal Mines Menaced. (Received May 10, 10.20 a.m.) SHANGHAI. May 9. Japanese reports state that as a result of a battle at Chienan the Japanese suffered 100 casualties, while the Chinese lost 1500, being the hottest battle since the latest drive commenced. The Japanese brigade captured Chienan on Monday, and now is pushing towards Luanch.ow. The Japanese planes are bombing Feng-yun, twenty miles north of Tongshan, wjiere important British coal mines are situated.
