OTIRA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
The monthly meeting of the Otira Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday evening, Mrs Mead presiding over a large attendance of members. Six new members were welcomed. A report of the annual meeting of the North Canterbury and West Coust Federation, held in Christchurch on April 26, was read and received. Mrs Mead and Mrs Lockie attended as delegates. A work-box demonstration was given by Mrs Whitley. A sales table of sixpenny surprise packets proved very successful. The competition was won by Mrs Whitley. Hostesses for the evening were:— Mesdames Brown, Keating and Lancaster. Personal. Constable C. Robb, of Otira, has received notice of his transfer to Tuakau, Auckland district, where he will be in charge. Constable J. Southworth, of Teniuka, has been appointed to take charge at Otira. Mr Fairlie, of Hokitika, has returned home after, spending a holiday in Otira. The Misses Scott, of Christchurch, have returned home after a lengthy stay in Otira.
