Protection Assured by the Nazis. BERLIN, May 3. The reaction to the Nazi seizure of control of "the trade unions among the working class cannot yet be ascertained. The seizure i» characteristic of present conditions in Germany. Reports of proceedings here and in. the provinces make no mention of the police. “ The Nazi Committee of Action commissioned by Adolf Hitler,” by whom the raids were conducted, has notified the unions that pensions will be paid regularly, and assures the safety of deposits in workmen’s banks, with the exception of certain accounts which it is considered require investigation. The statement further declares that everything that the trades unions have won in the past will be maintained, and the protection of the rights of workmen will be extended, “so that the workman may enter the new Nazi State as an equal and respected member of the nation.” A Nazi manifesto describes trade unions as Red criminals that have misled good-humoured and honest German workmen for generations in order to disinherit them and the nation. “ Hitler is your friend,” the manifesto adds, “ and is fighting for freedom, which he will give you.” Nazis have established control of the trade union Press, but the arrested officials will be released if there are no lapses. Nazis also closed the workers’ bank at Munich and arrested the directors, Ilerren Bogner and Horn.
