UNION ROWING CLUB.

Head of the River Banner Presented. Practically all rowing clubs in Canterbury were represented at the annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes of the Union Rowing: Club on Saturday evening-. Several of the speakers congratulated tiie Union Club on Us success in winning the Head of the River Banner, for most points in the series of inter-club events on the Avon. The president of the Union Club (M( D. Uee). who presided, proposed the toast of “The Club.” He congratulated Union on winning the Head of the River Banner, and the Akaroa Boating Club on annexing the D.C.L. Cup, awarded for most points gained at the season’s regattas. He said that Akaroa’s performance, in view of the size of the club, was a remarkable one. The Union Club, he felt, had had a successful season, and all that was needed was senior Replying to the toast, the club captain (Mr W. G. A tack) declared that the club had had a fair measure of success. There was in the club a considerable amount of talent which only needed developing. The club had the will to win, and the speaker looked forward to the younger oarsmen making the next season an outstanding one. To accomplish that, the value of training must not be overlooked. The toast of " The Canterbury Rowing Association ” was proposed by Mr F. Rogers. When responding, the president of the association (Mr F. D. Kesteven) presented the Head of the River Banner to the Union Club. Canterbury oarsmen’s performances at the Olympic Games were mentioned by the secretary of the Canterbury Association (Mi R. J. Hobbs), who urged Canterbury oarsmen to take eightoared rowing seriously, so that they | could draw on to even terms with j Otago. Mr U. C.
