LETTER OF PRAISE.

Work of Christchurch Labour Party.

A letter congratulating the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and the Labour Councillors of Christchurch on their work during the term of office just ending was received this morning by the Mayor from the secretary of the Parliamentary Labout Party.

“ During last session,” the letter reads, “ the Parliamentary Labour Party instructed me to place on record its very high appreciation of the fine work accomplished for the civic welfare, social progress and economic protection of the people of Christchurch by the Mayor and Labour Councillors during their term of office. The party considers it a matter for congratulation and gratitude on the part of all true democrats that there was one City Council that refused to join in the disastrous policy of deflation and, in the face of great difficulties, maintained wage standards while at the same time reducing rates. On behalf of the Parliamentary Labour Party, I send you herewith very best wishes for success at the election on May 3. I trust that, in spite of opposition from reactionaries of all kinds, some of them masquerading under radical names of high and cherished reputation which deserve a better fate than to be used in the miserable business of treacherously attacking Labour, the people of Christchurch, particularly the working class electors, will rally to the support of yourself and your colleagues and give the Labour Party in Christchurch a record majority.”
