OPAWA CARNIVAL.

The carnival organised by the OpawaMartins branch of the Plunket Society was held this afternoon at Johnson’s Fish Ponds, Opawa. There was a good attendance, and the various stalls and side-shows were well patronised. In declaring the fete opened, the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) urged the visitors to spend their money freely in order to kedp going the gallant work the Plunket Society was managing to continue in this time of depression. Among the many attractions during the afternoon were items given by the Stanmore Silver Band, and a fancy dress parade for children. The stallholders were:—lce cream, Mesdames C. H. Holmes and Geoffrey Wood; sweets, Mesdames Alan Brown and P. C. Wright; cakes, Mesdames G. Bradford, R. Roberts and J. C. Kane; bran tub, Mrs F. Egan and Miss L. Wilson; side-shows, Messrs Alan Brown and C. H. Holmes; afternoon tea, Mesdames G. B. Morgan, J. K. Stewart, E. Munroe and D. E. Hansen.
