CIVIC ELECTIONS.

List of Labour Candidates Announced. FULL TICKET FOR ALL BODIES. The North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee decided last night to run a full ticket for each of the City Council, North Canterbury Hospital Board, Lyttelton Harbour Board, and Waimakariri River Trust elections. The candidates were chosen at a meeting of the committee and affiliations, though the choice of two of the four candidates for the Waimakariri River Trust was left with the executive of the committee. The following candidates were approved : Mayoralty—Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. Christchurch City Council—The Rev J. K. Archer, Messrs J. S. Barnett, R. A. Brooks, A. J. Beauchamp, T. H. Butterfield, H. E. Denton, J. Mathison. R. M. Macfarlane, J. W. Roberts, R. H. Stillwell, F. M. Robson, G. T. Thurston, A. E. Tongue, E. Parlane, Mrs E. R. M’Combs and Miss M. Howard. North Canterbury Hospital Board — The Rev J. K. Archer, Messrs J. S. Barnett, J. Mathison, H. E. Denton, Mesdames T. Green, E. R. M’Combs, E. Parlane, and G. T. Thurston. Lyttelton Harbour Board—Messrs E. J. Howard, M.P., H. T. Armstrong, M.P., A. E. Tongue and G. T. Thurston. Waimakariri River Trust—Messrs RM. Macfarlane and H. E. Denton. There was a large attendance at the meeting, over which the president of the committee (Mr H. M’Caw) presid- | ed. Ballots were taken on the question of candidates for the City Council and the Hospital Board. The Nominees. Mr H. E. Denton, who will be a candidate for the City Council, the Hospital Board and the Waimakariri River Trust, is one of the nominees who is not very well known by the general public. He is connected with the insurance business, and was a tramway employee until some time before strike. Years ago he was a very member of the Labour Party. Mr R. H. Stillwell four years ago stood for the City Council as an Independent. on a ticket run by Dr H. T. J. Thacker. He polled fairly heavily. Messrs Archer, Parlane, Thurston, Barnett and Butterfield and Mrs M’Combs are members of the present City Council, and Messrs Roberts, Robson and Macfarlane are ex-councillors.

Miss M. Howard, who is a justice of the Peace, has been for many "years connected with work at the Trades Hall. She is a daughter of Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. Mrs Parlane has occupied a prominent position with the Selwyn Street Kindergarten and is a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the St John Ambulance Association. Mrs Thurston has been prominent in the work of the women’s branch of the Labour movement.

Of those nominated for the Hospital Board, Messrs Archer and Barnett and Mesdames Green and M’Combs are sitting members. Messrs Howard and Armstrong are members of the Harbour Board. The Waimakariri River Trust has on it no official representative of Labour.
