WAR MEMORIAL FUND
Meeting of Subscribers Called by Mayor. Subscribers to the Christchurch War Memorial Fund are requested bv the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) to attend a meeting in the City Council Chambers on Thursday evening to consider the proposal made by the Returned Soldiers’ Association that a portion of the fund should be used for the assistance of returned men who are in distressed circumstances as a result of unemployment. The meeting has been called by the Mayor in response to a request by the Returned Soldiers’ Association that the opinion of the general body of subscribers to 'the fund should be obtained. Special invitations will be sent to the members of the committee of the fund and subscribers -who are known to the R.S.A. A full discussion of the association’s proposal will take place and in the event of the subscribers giving it their support it may be necessary to have special legislation passed authorising the diversion of a portion of the money to a special trust fund to be administered by the Benevolent Committee of the association.
