ACCOUNTANT’S DEATH
Cut Throat With a Table Knife. A verdict that death was due to suicide, while in a state of unsound mind, was returned by the Coroner. Mr E. D. Mosley, at the inquest into the death of Hubert Thorne Whittingham, an accountant, of 232, Papanui Road, who was found dead on Saturday morning with his throat cut. G. C. Holland, the dead man’s partner, gave evidence of identification. Dr 11. T. Jennings, who had been in attendance on Mr Whittingham, said that he had been ill for some time as the result of a severe nervous breakdown. He had been ordered to St George’s Hospital, and was afterwards removed to his own home with a male attendant. The attendant stated that deceased, waking early in the morning, had rushed into the kitchen and picked up a table knife.
