Railway Fireman Killed, but Driver Escapes. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 16, 11.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 15. Leaping the rails as it rounded a curve the engine of a goods train crashed on its side near Bathurst. The fireman, Leslie Burke, a young married man, was killed, but the driver, John Gebbie, had a miraculous escape. Though covered with debris and wreckage he managed to crawl out with only a few bruises and scratches.
