Call Out the Tanks.
Vagrant Verse.
By SINBAD. 'yU’HATE’ER befall, good Aussies all, one * topic only mention: The Test that’s played at Adelaide absorbs their whole attention. Can Woodfull’s men prevail again—that would indeed be cheery; Or will the tail again grow pale, before the dread leg-theory? Their faith they pin, the match to win, on Grimmett’s wrong-uns wily, And likewise call on speed from Wall, and swingers from O’Reilly. Don Bradman’s bat they’re gazing at, with hope renewed and wistful, While Woodfull might well come to light, and bag of runs a fistful. The Kangaroo bounds now anew—once more it’s even running; The Lion’s roar is heard no more—all foolish boasting shunning. The English team still strong would seem —unless the cable news errs, Their faith they pin, the match to win, upon their set of bruisers. Led on by Voce, they may go close, if not the match to winning, At least to fill the hospital, the Aussie ranks thus thinning. Larwood lets fly extremely high, while Jardine’s team has others Who every game set out to maim their luckless Aussie brothers. If Aussie’s bats can save their slats, ’twill be a triumph splendid, But for its weight, thick armour plate might well be recommended. m
