DUKE SUED FOR £2OOO.
Debtor on Honeymoon When Case Called. LONDON, December 6. Mr Justice Luxmoore, in the Chancery Division yesterday, adjourned until January 23 a judgment summons brought by a judgment creditor named Grigsby against the Duke of Leinster, who was married recently. Mr W. B. Franklin, for the judgment creditor, said that he was asking for an instalment order for the payment of £2OOO, the balance of a loan of £3OOO owed by the duke. Sir George Jones, for the Duke of Leinster, asked for an adjournment for about one month, and said he had a doctor’s certificate stating that the duke was too unwell to attend. There had been negotiations for a long time with regard to the duke’s affairs, and his solicitors hoped to be able to put something definite before the creditors. Mr Franklin said letters had been received from the duke’s solicitors stating that he had left for his honeymoon, and would not be back until the end of next week. Mr Franklin said that he would like to refer to certain letters. “ I am afraid,” he added, “ that we shall not get anything out of this man unless drastic steps are taken by someone.” Mr Franklin said in reply to the iudge that he could not challenge the doctor’s certificate.
