“SECRET SERVICE.”
With a background of grand drama—the American Civil War days when thousands of spies filtered through opposing lines—RkO-Radio Pictures’ “ Secret Service ” began at the Grand Theatre to-day with Richard Dix in the leading role. The star is seen as an adventure-loving Union spy who volunteers to joust with death in an heroic effort to stem the Confederate advance. A romance in old Virginia with a daughter of a Southern general, the constant menace of discovery, suspicion, tragedy and a dramatic conclusion are features of this picture, which is based on the worldfamous play by William Gillette. Shirley Grey, who supported Dix in “ The Public Defender,” has the leading feminine role, and others in the cast are Gavin Gordon, William Post, jun., Nance O’Neil and Fred Warren. In addition, the first chapter of the thrilling serial, “ Danger Island,” featuring Kenneth Harlan, Lucille Browne, Tom Ricketts and Walter Miller, is being shown.
