ENJOYING THE HOLIDAYS.

Dear Aunt Hilda, —Thank you ever so much for the Eversharp pencil and the greetings, and I wish you the very same. I have just arrived from the Scout camp, and I am brimming with news. At the camp was a donkey, and we used to sit on it and get bucked off. One boy went into some Scotch thistles; he did feel sore. I forgot to tell you where the camp was situated; it was on Mr Johns's farm, Belfast. We had good bathing in the Waimak. There was a patrol competition, and our patrol won it. The prize was a flag. We rose at six in the morning, and went to bed at approximately nine-thirty. I am writing to Reg in the North Island. I am also sending him some books. I have just received a letter from an ex-Scout In Canada, and I received some stamps from him. I am going to get an address of a Boy Scout in England. I got my profic- , iency, and I am going to High School next year. Now and again the boy next door and I go for small hikes. With our packs on our backs, away we light-heartedly tramp, whistling “ Hike Along, Hike Along,” We met with an amusing incident the other day. We were tramping home along Council Road, when suddenly my mate yelled out, Look ! A rabbit! ” Sure enough it was, there in the middle of the road, staring suspiciously at us. L Then off it darted, with us in full ■ chase. Could we corner that rabbit? No. I think our heads were too full ’ of the thought of rabbit pie. Well, Mrs Rabbit had another narrow shave. At the Spit the other day we saw hun4reds of small soles and flounders. I i must now close as it is bedtime. Goodi bye.—l remain, one of your happy family, Alex MackrelL ! e a ® m sr@ h is h s h h h h s h m h h m
