e Variety is a feature of the sports I which will take place at English Park s to-morrow. f The events to be decided are woodf chopping by the best axemen in Cantern bury, including IT. Garlick, the Canter- - bury champion. It is seldom that the e public of Christchurch have the oppors turiity of seeing a competition of this '* nature. An exhibition of sawing will also take place. t Cycling, including motor-paced racing, n will be held at both the afternoon and - evening sessions. The chief cycling t event will be the five-mile scratch race, which has drawn an entry of twentyfive riders, including Tom O’Brien, the ex-amateur, who led a big field home in > the scratch race on Monday. Ron Weir, Bill Weir, Sid Jordan and Lionel Pitlier have nominated for the I motor-paced race. The heats will be t decided in the afternoon, and the final at night. A cycle race for ladies lias drawn a big field, and a two-lap race for schoolboys is expected to draw a good entry. Highland dancing will be introduced.
