WELLINGTON’S CHANCE.

Bowling Doubtful for Shield Series. (Special to the " Star.”) WELLINGTON, December 23. Though many familiar names are listed in the Wellington Plunket Shield team, local supporters are just a little anxious as to the outcome of the games. While Wellington appear all-powerful in batting, there is just a shade of doubt about the bowling. This is accentuated by the inability of J. Newman, of Nelson, to accept the position of stock bowler in the side. With Newman out of the side and in the absence of Cyril Allcott, Wellington are now without either a left-handed bowler or a slow leg break artist. Still, bowlers like M’Girr and Massey, assisted by Blundell and Parsloe and Lambert, should be able to make a brave showing against any provincial side. M’Girr did not play in the Town and Country game, but his recent form has been quite good. Lambert, who has been in Hawke’s Bay since the beginning of the season, has been bowling well. Blundell has performed remarkably on occasions, and if he finds any wickets to his liking during the Shield series he will have the opposition in serious trouble. Cyril Parsloe is a newcomer to representative cricket. He is a fast bowler who makes a lot of pace off the pitch. In recent outings he has reaped a harvest of wickets, his best performance being on Saturday, when he had four wickets for 6 runs at one stage, and finished with six for 70. Parsloe is also a useful batsman when the bowling is broken down a little. He plays Rugby for Poneke in winter, and is a fine type of wing three-quarter. Lowry Plays Again. The decision of Tom Lowry to play is welcomed in Wellington, where there is an absence of class leaders. In Dempster, du Chateau, Dustin, O’Brien, Massey Lambert and M’Girr the Shield holders have i strong array of natsmen. O’Brien tvill be watched ■vith interest in this, his first Plun<et Shield game. His batting has decidedly encouraging, and another big score folowing upon his efforts against both Canterbury and Otago for Hawke’s Bay should bring him prominently before the country as a candidate worth watching for future overseas tours.
