SENSATION CAUSED
Relief Talk in New York Church. NEW YORK. December 8. A remark by the pastor, the Rev. i Dr. Henr\' Howard, formerly of Meli bourne, who told his congregation that iit could “go to hell ” if it refused | to respond to a relief appeal, caused a 1 sensation in the fashionable Fifth i Avenue Congregational Church. i It was subsequently explained the j phrase was used in a Bibical sense, j After the sermon, in which he said many educated women were now huddling together in subways for warmth, Dr. Howard made an appeal for the women’s division of the Emergency Relief Committee. The statement, which contained the startling phrase was: “ If any of you can view the distress and misery existing in New York with- i out feeling the urgency of its appeal, all I can say is, if these things do • i not interest you, you can go to hell j and may your money perish with you.”
