Christmas Greetings. “ Magneto ” takes this opportunity of wishing readers the compliments of the season. Motorists at this time of the year leave the city for all parts of the country—may they all have good motoring. Motoring notes will not be published again until .January 17. The Waitaki Works. Motoring visitors to South Canterbury should not lose an opportunity of seeing the Waitaki Hydro-electric works. From Wa ini ate the distance is about 42 miles, and from Oamaru about 4 4 miles. It is a most interesting place, and is well worth a visit. •2 22 .2 Motor-cars in India. During 1930-31 there were 12,601 private motor-cars, including taxicabs, imported into India. Of these 2885 were British, 3250 Canadian, and 5098 American. During 1931-32 there were < 220 cars imported, of which 2178 were British. 676 Canadian, and 3368 American. England thus supplied 30 per cent of th*e cars in 1931-1932, as against 23 per cent in the previous year. 22 22 22 The Akaroa Road. The Akaroa Road is in fair order for motoring at present, according to a report received from the Canterbury Automobile Association. To Motukarara the road is in good ordter. To Little River the surface is heavily shingled, and care should be taken on the corners. There is an over-supply of metal on the run up to Hill-top, hut thereafter the road is in. good order. With a fair amount of 1 raffle travelling both ways during the holiday. motorists should exercise great, care when ascending ana descending the hill roads.

The Main North. The Main North Road is in good order generally for motoring. There is plenty of shingle on the stretch from the Ashley Bridge to Amberley, but this should occasion no trouble. From Amberley to Cheviot the surfacte is largely tarsealed, and the Omihi Saddle has been vastly improved. The road through the Hundalee has been improved, and motorists who have not been over the road for some time will be pleasantly surprised. Notices .have be*en erected warning the motorists of the danger of the water-courses in the Conway. Along the Kaikoui'a Coast ther e is a good deal to interest motorists, particularly north of the town. The railway works have altered the road a good deal, but it is mainly in good order right through to Blenheim. Roading Information. Any motorist desirous of securing nore detailed information of the conditions of roads in the South Island should call at the office of the Canterbury Automobile Association this week. The association is in possession of reports on practically every highway in the island. 22 22 22 A Christmas Gift. The C.A.A. has been receiving a great deal of criticism of lap©. but one member at any rate appreciates the great services of the association. This member, a lady, lias forwarded a Christmas gift of £2 2s to the association. The Texas Oil Company advise that two petrol pumps have been erected at Le Bons Bay.
