DISPLAY OF HANDWORK
St Margaret’s College Junioi School. The school lawn at’St Margaret’s College, Cranmer Square, proved an excel-: lent place to hold the junior prizegiving yesterday afternoon. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance of parents and friends. A ( fairy scene, adapted from “ A Midsum-.. < mer Night’s Dream,” which included i dancing and singing, was presented by j the children of Fornf 1 and the kindergarten. The children then gathered round the Christmas tree, and gifts i were presented by Mrs Julius. Before ] the shields were presented, a brief address was given by Archbishop Julius. Mrs Julius presented the shields, as < follows: Fir St-class Shields—Ann Bennett, ] Janet Chapman, Molly Fenner (first- j class art), Rae Harris, June Harris, Mary Hanafin (first-class art, first-class 5 order and conduct), Suzanne Maclean J (first-class order and conduct), Bobbie ( Cameron Smith (first-class art, first- _ class order and conduct, k red drill stripe), j Mary Taylor (first-class order and conduct), Maxine Wanty (first-class order ] and conduct). Second-class Shields—Yvonne Watson, (first-class order and conduct), Cecily ; Collier, Ruth Woods (first-class order - and conduct). Second-class Credit—Cynthia Allison Barbara Reay. Display or Work. In the schoolroom, there was a dis- i play of the handwork done by the children during the year. The main exhibit was the dolls house, a two-storey dwelling made from boxes by the children. It was complete, with tables, chairs, ; mats and wallpaper, showing that the children had spent a great deal of time on the work. Other work by the kinder- - garten included knitting, plasticine and drawing. The work of Form 1 was more advanced than that of the younger children, and here again the children showed considerable skill. There was . sewing, toys and basket-work, besides : the drawings and plasticene. Afternoon tea was served by the older i girls. _________
