The First Century.
(Special to the " Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 7. The first century in first grade cricket was scored by “ Scott ” Sale, a son of the late Ned Sale, who had a share in New Zealand’s second test victory over the M.C.C. team at Wellington in 1907. “ Scott ” is a student at the Takapuna Grammar School, and Saturday’s game was his first of the year. He and Dacre (63) put on over 100 for North Shore's fifth wicket against Eden. G. L. Weir eventually got them both. Eden were already in a bad way with two wickets down for twelve runs, Jack Mills being bowled for a single by 11. Webb. Fred Angus, who scored the first century in any grade for Grafton senior B last week was promoted, but made a “duck” against Y.M.C.A. Two New Zealand cricket representatives (Matheson and D. R. Garrard) and two All Blacks (Bush and Caughey) figured in the King’s Old Boys’-Varsity Match. Caughey plays for King’s, as do Pearson (Auckland Rugby representative) and M’Millan (cricket representative).
