A special parade of the ambulance men and nursing division of the St John Ambulance Brigade was held at the Ambulance Hall, Latter Street, last evening, for the purpose of inspection by Colonel G. Barclay, Knight of Grace of the Order of St John, 0.8. E., V.D., 0.D., Chief Commissioner of the St John Ambulance Brigade, overseas. The parade was in the charge of District Superintendent W. Smith, Officer of the Order of St John, assisted by Corps Officer J. M. Dunne, Divisional Superintendent C. E. Hooper, Lady Divisional Superintendent M. Youdale, and Divisional Surgeon Dr F. F. A. Ulrich.

The Chief Commissioner expressed himself as pleased with the efficient manner in which the divisions had carried out the various tests, and congratulated the members on the way in which they were maintaining the high traditions of the Order. Colonel Barclay referred to the lack of interest apparent on the part of the public in furnishing recruits for the men’s division, and commended to the consideration of the staff, the question of establishing cadet divisions. He stated that these were proving popular in other centres.

After the parade was dismissed the Chief Commissioner met the officers in conference, when matters of interest to the district were discussed.
