SAVING THE BOYS.
What the Fourth Form is Doing.
(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 3.
The work of the fourth form at Kowhai Junior High Schoool in providing for pupils who were unable to find employment after spending three years at the school, was described by the headmaster in a letter received by the Education Board. The Department recently notified the board that pupils could not be retained at school beyond three years. After hearing the headmaster’s explanation the board decided strongly to recommend the Department to allow the class to be continued. The class had been formed in the interests of the scholars, and as the school was well equipped it could supply appropiiate courses. If the class had not been formed many of the pupils would have been forced into unemployment, with its demoralising influence, but at the school the pupils were given vocational guidance, and, in spite of the depression, Jt had been found possible to place many in congenial employment. The form was, in fact, a bridge between school and work.
