MINISTERIAL. Mr Forbes left Wellington for Palmerston North to-day to attend the opening of the Royal Show. He was accompanied by the Hon C. E. Macmillan, and will return to Wellington tonight. Mr Coates will return to Wellington to-day. Mr H. S. E. Turner returned from Wellington to-day. § Mr S. W. Styche (Dunedin) is a guest at the Clarendon Hotel.

Amongst those registered at Warner's Hotel are Messrs W. G. MTndoe (Auckland) and G. Bishop (Gore). Mr C. M. Ollivier, who has been on a visit to Sydney, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Messrs G. L. Osborne (Wellington), J. A. Stewart (Southland) and A. B. Weldon (Auckland) are staying at the New City Hotel. Mr J. M. Bunt,- of Greymouth, who recently flew to Auckland to see his father, who was ill, will return to Christchurch tomorrow and leave for the West Coast by the express. Mr Bernard Allen, general manager for United Artists for New Zealand, is at present in Christchurch making arrangements for the screening of “ Arrowsmith ” at the Theatre Royal on Saturday. Guests at the United Service Hotel include: Messrs C. B. Trimnell, R. H. Cate, A. L. Hill, P. Gleeson, Y. Brunt (Wellington), J. Sussex, M. J. Bennett, J. C. Hill (Auckland), S. V. Tyler (Hamilton) and O. Alloms (Wanganui).

• Mr M. J. Bennett left Auckland on Monday evening for Christchurch, where he is to attend the annual conference of the Federated Oil, Colour and Glass Merchants. Although Mr Bennett has been sixty-eight years in Auckland, this will be his first visit to the south.

Mr A. S. Byrgess, of Wanganui, the newly-elected president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, was born in Wanganui in 1869, and educated in Wellington and Wanganui. He was employed with A. Hattrick and Co, Ltd., in Wanganui until 1928, when he started in business on his own account, founding A. S. Burgess and Co, Ltd, shipping and insurance agents. Mr L. S. Dewar, having completed his ministerial studies, was last evening licensed as a preacher of the Presbyterian Church. He was appointed to the Ross district, on the West Coast. The service was conducted in St Paul’s Church by the Rev J. A. Allan, Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery. Mr Dewar was appointed on the recommendation of the Home Missions Committee of the Presbytery. He was formerly a member of St Paul’s Church.

The Rev John Paterson completes twenty-five years in the ministry of the Presbyterian Church this week. After several years spent in Australia Mr Paterson came to New Zealand to the charge of St Paul’s Church, Christchurch, where he remained for ten years until his transfer to his present position in Wanganui, which he has occupied for the past eight years. Mr Paterson has always taken a keen and Active interest in Savagery, and is a past-Grand Chief of the Christchurch Savage Club.
