SUDDEN HEART ATTACK.

Causes Death of Railway Manager. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 1. Following a heart attack incurred while travelling by train from Wellington Mr P. G. Roussell, General Manager of Railways, died suddenly at the home of his sister, Mrs H. Jenkin, Schofield Street, Grey Lynn, five hours after the arrival of the train at Auckland. He had intended joining the Niagara to-night for Sydney to make inquiries on behalf of the New Zealand Railways Board regarding the operation of Australian railways.

According to his relatives Mr Roussell had never complained of heart trouble before. He left Wellington in excellent health and spirits, occupying a sleeper on the Limited. During the night had a seizure and suffered great pain for several hours. He was kept under constant observation by the car attendants and the railway authorities despatched a message to Auckland asking that medical assistance be obtained on the train’s arrival. Dr C. E. A. Coldicutt met the train at 9.30 a.m. Mr Roussell was then greatly improved and was able to walk without assistance. He proceeded straight to his sister’s home and went to bed and Dr Coldicutt visited him about noon. He became worse later in the day and Dr Coldicutt called in Dr T. W. J. Johnson for consultation purposes. Their services, however, were of no avail and Mr Roussell died at 2.40 p.m.

Mrs Roussell, who was notified of her husband’s illness, is expected to arrive by train from Wellington tomorrow morning.
