FLOODING IN LINWOOD.
Appeal Made to Drainage Board. Means of overcoming drainage difficulties in the vicinity of St Heliers and Rhona Streets, North Linwood, were discussed by members of the North Linwood Burgesses’ Association and the chairman of the Christchurch Drainage Board (Mr S. C. Bingham), the secretary of the board (Mr C. F. Champion) and the engineer (Mr J. Cullen) at a meeting of the association last night. ( Two schemes had been reported on by Mr Cullens. One provided for the installation of an electric pump at Rhona Street, which would serve an area of 15 acres, including part of St Heliers Street. The estimated cost was £290. The second scheme provided for a relief stormwater drain to the river Avon. This would relieve the flooding in Rhona Street, and also the vicinity of Worcester Street and Linwood Avenue. The estimated cost would be £G6OO. Flooding could be obviated largely by raising the channels and then the footpaths could be kept dry. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs T. S. Dacre. R. Carter and H. H. Harrow was set up to. investigate- regarding Porter’s drain, and report to the next meeting.
