CITY LAWYER FINED.
Son Appears as Counsel for Defendant. When Anthony Cottrell, a prominent member of ythe Bar at Christchurch, was called as defendant in a by-law case at the Magistrate's Court this morning, his son, Mr A. I. Cottrell, also a member of the Bar. represented him. The charge was one of driving a motor-car at night with insufficient lights. “ This is a serious offence,” said Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., smiling. 44 What are the facts?” The police stated that the defendant had driven through the city at night with only one light showing in the front of his car. 4 ‘ It was sheer bad luck,” said counsel for the defendant. ” The car had been in the garage for attention and one of the lights had not been connected properly. As soon as the fault was noticed it was rectified.” The ends of justice were met with '.he imposition of a fine of 5s and costs.
