WELSH FORTUNE.

Can Mr Hughes Establish Claim ? LONDON, September 30. According to the “ Daily Herald,” several W T elsh families living at Gwent are seeking to establish their right to a considerable fortune left by Mr Evan Jones, who was known as the “ King of Powis.” The estates, situated in Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Australia, have been in the hands of the Crown solicitors since 1820. Three American descendants head the claim. It was stated that Australia’s former Prime Minister, Mr W. M. Hughes, could trace his ancestry to Evan Jones through his mother, but Mr Hughes laughed when the matter was mentioned to him. “It is true that my ancestors came from Montgomeryshire,” lie said, “ and that some of them were named Jones, but there, unfortunately for me, the connection apparently ends.”
