Model Aeroplane Notes

The 14 Star ** Club had bright sunshine and a light, generally favourable breeze for flying last week-end. A large number of. members ri* rne< J out, in spite of having put In a heavy evening at the Barracks helping with “ Come to Christchurch" Week on the Friday, and the standard of performances was well above average. The best flights in the various classes were:—Fuselage, hi., R. Cashmore 78sec; fuselage, r.0.g., N. Stephens, 44sec; stick tractor, A. Fraser, 56 3-ssec; twin pusher, I. Kerr, 56sec. Cashmore’s model had a 28in wing of wide chord, with a slow-running prop and a fuselage of generous proportions, giving plenty of stability without enough weight to stop it climbing. Stephens’s model was a perfect piece of workmanship and climbed steadily, with rather more speed than duration. In Fraser’s stick model everything was sacrificed to lightness, so that when he found a favourable air-current he got his reward. Kerr’g twin-pusher combined lightness, strength and propeller efficiency, making spectacular flying. The best performances were:—l. Kerr: Twin pusher, 25, 44 3-5, 56sec. R. Cashmore: 'Fuselage, 56, 78, 52 3-5, 49 1-5, -58, 61 2-ssec. N. Stephens: Fuselage. 40, 40, 39 1-5* 42, 38sec; r.0.g., 38 2-5, 37, 44, 35 H. Harding: Fuselage, 13, 21, 22, 22 2-5, 32sec. N. Williams: Fuselage, 10, lOsec. M. Kra-

hagen: Stick tractor, 9,15 sec. A. Fraser: Stick tractor, 18, 31 2-5, 29, 56 3-5, 33sec. Greymouth Club. The Greymouth Model Aero Club is still making steady progress. Outdoor conditions have not been suitable of late and we have had to content ourselves with indoor flying, and to date our president holds the record with 30sec, while George Hanson is running a good second. However, with the return of Daylight Saving we are hoping to get some good flights outdoors in the evenings.—A. Agnew, secretary, Greymouth Model Aero Club. Hokitika Club. The Hokitika Model Aero Club held its weekly meeting on Monday evening, there being a record attendance of 33 members. It was distinctly noticeable the number of carefully designed propellers that were displayed during the evening, also that a score of models were under construction. All members are building flying models and gliders for the knock-out competition on October 10, the prize for which has been donated by Mr A. Nancekivell. Welcome reports were received that the captain, L. G. Parry, and the vicecaptain, H. Andrews, had built and flown successfully their models for i 15sec and 12sec respectively. After an instructive address, followed by ques- | tions, the meeting dispersed.
