ASSOCIATION GAME.

Past Players Meet Present at English Park.

Evidently end-of-season enthusiasm among: Christchurch Soccer players does not extend to the playing of friendly matches. Thistle and Rangers were scheduled to meet at English Park today, but neither side was there to take the field. Twenty-two players were found, however, for the second match, Nomads v. their Old Boys. Twelve played for the Old Boys and ten for the present team. Former “ stars ’’ playing for Past included W. Watson, R. Wood, A. Taylor and M. Wilson. Two full spells were, played, but not at an “-all-out ” pace, players as well as spectators apparently extracting plenty of amusement from the game. Thanks to their two-men advantage, slightly inaccurate shooting by their opponents, and some distinctly good luck, the Past team kept their goal intact for 35 minutes. Then Smith, Present centre-forward, scored from two yards’ range. Coates, outside-left for Past, almost succeeded in levelling the scores just before the half-time whistle blew, with the score: Present 1. Past 0. With half the’ second spell gone, Adams steered the ball past two .goalmouth defenders and put Present two up. He notched artother a minute later with a hard ground shot from long range, and the Past made a change of goalkeeper. Present 3, Past 0. Their veter'an, A Taylor, “dazzled” the Present defence and walked through to open the Past team's account. A Tay-lor-Wood-Wilson movement ended in Wilson scoring with a neat header. Present 3, Past 2. Past withstood all further raids and the game ended— PRESENT • 3 PAST 2 Referee: Mr J. Stout. FRANK CAMPBELL CUP. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. September 17.
